I had a super fun time having tea today with @ApricotAbroad , @BlawnDee , @ahullum , @coolcaiti , & @AshleyJ !
I had the Mediterranean tea service and had a really tasty tea called Turkish Delight.
I was so nice to get dressed up for a nice tea party with great ladies. So much fun.
I went on a bit of spree this weekend and got some new things for fall, and for some reason, nearly everything I got is animal themed. I didn’t even notice until I got home and found a little menagerie when I unpacked my shopping bags. I guess I just like cute animals prints for the fall.
Firstly, I went to express to get this Unicorn top. I had seen this while shopping with my boyfriend for some nice pants for him and it was so cute I decided that I needed it.
I thought the print was subtle, even if it is unicorns. It also reminded me of my new supervisor because she loves unicorns and has them all over her desk.
Next I stopped in Forever 21 to get some accessories, and I found these adorable cat flats. I’ve seen cat flats before and always thought they were super cute, but wavered on whether they wearable for everyday. These, however of subtle enough that if you’re not looking too closely the could just be embellished.
I also picked up these bow earrings because they were super cute.
I got these from The Icing. They’re just little gold rose studs, but I thought they were really pretty.
I got this 3/4-Sleeve Animal Graphic Top from JC Penny in Tan Fox. This sweater is a cashmere blend so it’s super soft and will be really cozy when the weather gets colder.
Animal Graphic tops/sweaters are super on trend this fall and I loved the cute fox on this one.
Then wandered over to the Sephora shop in JC Penny and finally got a bottle of Philosophy’s Pink Frosted Animal Cracker shower gel. I love Philosophy’s shower gels (I know I’ll be loving their Pumpkin Pie shower gel again come November) and I had my eye on either the Pink Frosted Animal Cracker or the Pink Frosted Layer Cake scents for a while. I haven’t actually tried the Pink Frosted Layer Cake scent in person, but I can’t imagine there would be much difference. This smells light and sugary and just so nice. I’d seen this shower gel in couple different stores and I kept stopping and smelling it every time so I decided to finally get one.
This dress from Target has cats on it. How could I not get it!?
It’s so cute and easily dresses up to a very classic outfit when paired a topknot bun, pearls, ruffled socks, and black patent shoes.
I also got this Dropped-Waist Skirt in black which I think will be super cute layering with chunky sweaters and graphic tops.
I also picked up these little sheep socks because, why not?
And that’s my unintentionally animal-themed fall haul! I really didn’t realize that I was getting all animal printed things until I got home, but I thought it was a fun coincidence.
One of my favorite Houston bands is the Tontons. I love Asli Omar’s, the lead singer, voice so much. I always try to see these guys play when I get the chance.
Recently I saw that they would be playing at Umami Mia Pizzeria, a really cool pizza place the opened recently in the off of Lamar and Barton Springs here in Austin (btw, I moved to Austin last February), so off course I couldn’t miss it!
Since my boyfriend was out of town this weekend, I invited my friend Tom to eat great pizza, hear great music and have a great time.
It was really fun to hang out on the patio of a cool restaurant and get to hear one of my favorite H-town bands.
With fall coming, I’ve been wanting to update my wardrobe for autumn. While I have added a few new things to my closet to start the new season, I also like finding new ways to use items I already own.
I got these Women’s Mossimo Supply Co. Waylon Huarache Cork Wedge Sandal in Cognac from Target since last spring. They’re super comfortable because the leather is really soft and I’ve found they go with a lot of things. However, cork wedges seem very spring/summery to me so I thought I’d update them fall by adding a metallic finish.
I used Elegant Finish – Metallic Paint in the color Worn Penny with is a nice orange-y copper color that I love for fall.
I painted the cork wedge with a thin coat of the metallic paint. I didn’t bother taping the edges of the wedge. I just took careful care to not paint over the edges.
Painting the wedges didn’t take very long at long all and after I finished I left the shoes to dry on a piece of poster I had, and left them to dry.
Here’s the finished product after the paint dried! I love the metallic finish on these shoes. I tend to wear a lot of metallics as neutrals in my wardrobe so I know I’ll get even more wear out these shoes.
Since it’s September now, I’ve fully embraced the coming fall. September in particular always makes me crave apples, and if the closest apple-picking farm to me wasn’t five hours away, I’d be planning a trip to get bushels of apples and gallons of spiced cider.
However, apple-picking or not, I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate apples in recipes to start off my fall cooking/baking routines.
At the beginning of this month (or let’s be honest, midway through August), I went looking for apple based recipes for September and one of the tasty & easy sounding ones was a Turkey, Apple, Swiss Melt.
I used this recipe last with a few modifications to the bread and cheese, and I used my super simple home-made sweet potato chips recipe for a nice fall tasting side. I made this for dinner for myself and my boyfriend so this recipe makes two servings.
Ingredients:
To start with the chips, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and begin slicing your sweet potato.
Try to keep your slices as consistent as possible.
Added your slices to a large bowl and toss them in olive oil and rosemary.
Place your slices on a un-greased cookie sheet.
Place the cookie sheet with the sweet potato slices into the oven and let cook for 15 minutes. At that point, flip the slices and return to the oven for another 15 minutes or until brown at the edges.
Once finished, remove each slice carefully and put to the side.
Now it’s time to actually start preparing the sandwich. Start by slicing your green apple. Try to keep the slices as thin as possible.
I thought it would be nice to toast the bread so I after slicing each ciabatta bun into two pieces, I buttered them and placed them in oven on broil until slightly toasted.
Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to make a tangy sauce for the sandwich.
Now for the brie. I used a brie spread which was very easy to apply to the bread, but you can you any kind of soft brie.
With the brie and mustard applied, begin to add your apple slices and your turkey. After that, just finish your sandwich by bringing each side together.
Serve with your sweet potato chips and enjoy!
This is something I started working on last night. It was based on an idea I had recently that using only CSS3, one could create a fully interactive map.
Obviously, I don’t have all fifty capitals up yet, but the structure, functionality, and styling is done so all that’s left is just to add the remaining map items.
You can view the working demo here
I got to see the awesome Houston grown band Wild Moccasins open up for Of Montreal last night at Warehouse Live. The show was easily the interesting concert I’ve ever seen thanks to Of Montreal’s unique stage performers, but to be honest, I was mainly there to see Wild Moccasins. They’re one my top three favourite bands, and I love any chance to see them play.
They absolutely killed it. I loved the cover of Madonna’s Vogue they did and they sounded amazing over all. They also played a lot of new songs so here’s hoping they might be about to record/release a new album.
I had my college graduation today. I can’t can barely believe that I made it.
I graduated with honours and received my Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts in Web Design & Interactive. For the first time in the last seventeen of the twenty-two years of my life, I am no longer a student, but I swear I will never stop learning. I’m just wired that way.
Graduation Today !! Song of the day is not “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life),” but it is a Green Day song: Waiting.
Today was the Portfolio Show for the recent graduates of The Art Institute of Houston. This was basically a culmination of the past four years of my college career. I created a series of leave behinds and branding pieces to help showcase my digital portfolio, in addition to this website.
My leave behinds: Resume Packets, Logo Cookies, Business Cards, and Scholarship Award.
My Website and a poster advertising my skills
the full set up
During the show, I also had the opportunity to speak with many business professionals who were interested in my work and skills.
I had a lot of good interest in my set up. A lot of people said I did a very good job creating a cohesive brand for myself and my abilities.
Thank you to everyone who came by today. All your support and interest was so greatly appreciated.
Now the only thing left is just Graduation tomorrow !!
